Moondog. (n.d.). PSA X5.7 first look at SHOT Show – Moondog Industries.
Palmetto State Armory revealed a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) prototype chambered in 5.7x28 caliber, which, while non-functional, remains captivating. This concept revisits the original purpose of the 5.7x28 cartridge, designed for compact machine guns with enhanced performance and engagement capabilities surpassing those of 9x19mm submachine guns. Although the military experiment with this cartridge was not notably successful, its civilian application has gained traction over the years.

Palmetto State Armory already offers a semi-automatic pistol in 5.7x28, the 5.7 Rock, and is now advancing further with the introduction of the X57. In the civilian market, the X57 appears geared towards home defense. At the 2024 SHOT Show, Palmetto presented mock-ups of various firearms, allowing visitors to vote on their preferences. The X57 emerged as the favored choice (I personally voted for the 308 JAKL someone needs to knock the SCAR H off it's platform). Sporting a classic PDW design with a magazine integrated into the grip, the X57 features a telescoping, spring-loaded stock developed in collaboration with SB Tactical. This stock can automatically unfold at the push of a button. The T-shaped charging handle is AR-15-compatible, and the polymer receiver incorporates Picatinny rails for attaching red dots and various mechanical devices.
The double-stack magazine boasts a maximum capacity of 40 rounds, while the trigger assembly, extractor, and ejector mirror those of the 5.7 Rock pistol. As the X57 is still in the design phase, specific details such as the retail price are yet to be finalized. We can only assume with PSA's reputation of fairly priced platfroms like the new Sabre line of "higher end" rifles and the JAKL the X57 shouldn't be any different.
